GHRP-2 is a synthetic hexapeptide which acts as a Growth Hormone Releasing Peptide (GHRP). GHRP-2 works with the hypothalamus and the pituitary glands to release growth hormone. The growth hormone released thanks to GHRP-2 has a slight effect on levels of Prolactin, ACTH and Cortisol. GHRP-2 has consistently shown that it is very effective at stimulating GH production in all subjects it has been tested on. GHRP-2 does have a very short half life with peak concentrations happening around 15 minutes after using it and no longer than 60 minutes after administration of it.
Ghrelin, which is known for being identified recently as a peptide secreted by gastric endocrine cells(1), has drawn a lot of attention due to its dual effects. A growth hormone secretagogue receptor that was cloned in 1996 regulates growth hormone release. Additionally, the circulating ghrelin is also implicated in meal to meal regulation. Ghrelin levels are known to increase when in anticipation of a meal (13) and are suppressed by food ingestion (13, 14), but the underlying mechanisms are not known. However, it is known that meal-related suppression of ghrelin is in direct relation to the carbohydrate content of the meal. All studies have shown that it does not appear to be directly related to glucose or insulin (14,15), although insulin administration is known to decrease ghrelin.
